The Official History of Leystan International Academy
Great institutions are never built by chance—they are born from vision. They are the result of men and women who dare to see a better future and take deliberate steps to bring it to life. This is the story of Leystan International Academy—an institution founded on deep conviction and an unshakable desire to transform education.
Founded in August 2023 by Prince Stanley Nwakamma Orum and Mrs. Felicite Akulome Orum, the Academy was born out of a passion to give every child—rich or poor—access to quality, modern education. The founders saw gaps between privilege and potential, between digital innovation and traditional learning, and between quality and access. Their response was to create a school that bridges these divides, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive.
Mission: To foster critical thinking, creativity, respect, and sound ethical behavior through a balanced and comprehensive curriculum.
Vision: To build a community of empowered learners for an ever-achieving society, inspiring an innovative mindset for future success.
From its base at Plot 1 OBS Avenue, Avu, Owerri West, Imo State, Leystan began with just 11 pioneer pupils and 14 dedicated staff members. The early days were challenging, especially in assembling a visionary management team capable of turning ambition into results. Yet, through persistence and focus, these challenges were overcome, laying the foundation for sustained growth.
The Avu community welcomed the Academy with excitement, praising its promise to blend academic rigor with values, creativity, and digital excellence. In less than two years, Leystan has transformed the learning culture in the region, especially through its commitment to vocational education—equipping students with practical, entrepreneurial, and solution-oriented skills.
Today, Leystan operates as a Nursery, Primary, and Secondary School, fully approved by the Federal Ministry of Education and accredited as an official examination centre for WAEC SSCE, BECE, State Common Entrance, and First School Leaving Certificate.
The campus boasts world-class facilities, including:
-
A standard football pitch
-
Fully equipped science laboratories
-
A Food and Nutrition lab
-
A digital learning and computer lab
-
A music studio
-
Inclusive, learner-friendly classrooms
The school’s culture is enriched by signature programs such as Career Days, excursions, cultural festivals, spelling bees, mathematics challenges, and vocational showcases—reflecting a belief in holistic education.
Guided by values of excellence, discipline, creativity, respect, and leadership, Leystan shapes students not just academically but in character. Leadership transitions—from Mrs. Anusiem Celestina, who established operational order, to Mrs. Mercy Iwuchukwu, who has driven innovation—have strengthened the school’s identity and vision.
Looking ahead, Leystan plans to expand into a boarding secondary school, establish a post-secondary technical college, launch international exchange programs, and create a scholarship foundation for gifted underprivileged students.
In just a short time, Leystan International Academy has become a symbol of vision, purpose, and transformation in Nigerian education. With bold dreams and a firm foundation, the journey has only begun—and the best is yet to come.
